The lost Hymn “Burry Port” by 19th century hymn writer J.H.Roberts has been rediscovered by Tab and Hilary John while at a 2nd hand shop in Cardigan. The hymn was found in a late 19th century Welsh Methodist Hymnal. J.H.Roberts was a prominent hymn writer and Choir master in the 19th century, founding several choirs throughout the UK. The words to the hymn were from the Poem “Cyfarwyddyd yn yr Anialwch” (guidance in the desert) written by William Williams Parntycelyn. This discovery has come as a complete surprise to us all, as no one in the Burry Port Church and Chapel going community was aware of its existence.
Burry Port Town Band will “premier” the hymn at their Summer Concert on the 27th of June in the Memorial Hall, Burry Port. Tickets are available from Elgan Jones, Burry Port Premier Stores or any band member for £10 per adult, or £12.50 on the door on the evening.
